The standard rule of thumb for restaurant tipping is to leave at least 15 percent for the service you considered average and 20 percent for those services that you believed or experienced to be above average.
However, not every restaurant or Country believes the etiquette of tipping.
In Japan, tipping is not customary it is in fact considered as rude and insulting to the restaurant owners and its staff.
Meanwhile in the United States one cafe in Pennsylvania, a restaurant sued a diner after leaving a substantial tip to one of its waitresses.
The waitress, Mariana Lambert, was initially taken aback when she saw the tip consisting of several thousand dollars. She was absolutely moved by the gesture.
The restaurant, Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe, is now suing for more than $3,000 dollars but asked for a refund later.
Managers were initially sceptical, but the credit card transaction was successful.
The diner said that a social media campaign titled ‘Tips for Jesus’ inspired him to leave the generous tip. It genuinely meant a lot to Lambert, she said. Despite being deeply moved, she was still in disbelief.
This is where the inspiring story changes, when the tipper challenged the charged tip with his credit card provider.
When they learned of the dispute with the credit company, the restaurant assumed it was a miscommunication because Lambert had already received the large sum by that point.
The restaurant manager Zachary Jacobson made several attempts to contact the diner by several social media platforms but was unsuccessful.
As a result, the manager filed charges with the magistrate’s office, labelling the entire incident as “aggravating”.
Jacobson at Alfredo’s Cafe is hoping they will win the court battle and won’t be asked to pay $3,000 back.
Jacobson said: “Unfortunately, we had to file charges through the magistrate’s office because now we’re just out of this money at this point. And he told us to sue him, so that’s what we’re going to end up doing, I guess. I hope that he owns up to his actions and comes forth and does pay this, because you shouldn’t have done this if this was the end result.”
This is a very poorly written article. Are there no editors or proofreaders here? And the headline is total clickbait.
So, the guy left a big tip because of the Jesus thing, then thought better of it and tried to deny the bill?
So if he admits he left the tip legitimately, who did he tell and how does the writer know this?
And why would the restaurant have to sue if they already have the money? It’s the credit card user who would have to sue to get the money back.
Racist much!? What a stupid comment. This happened in Pennsylvania.
Titles are very deceiving! Restaurant sued after customer disputed the tip with his credit card company! I hope the restaurant wins!!
Wow. That’s one of the most racist comments I’ve ever seen. Hope your parents are proud of you.
The diner can only challenge fraudulent charges. I don’t believe a change of mind about an unsolicitated charge is recallable. State laws vary.
you are such a racist piece of shit I don’t know what makes you think that you are better than anyone else and who are you to judge. You better be careful of what you say and write because one day you are going to say the wrong thing to the wrong person and you are going to get your ass kicked and I can’t say I won’t be sorry to see it happen.
Why would you leave a tip to your waiter knowing that he or she would be happy and spend it.Now how could they pay it back. AND why would you expect them to comply.
Wow! That’s like writing a Check and then stop payment on it.
